[Hagåtña, Guam, June 2, 2024] - The Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency (CAHA) is excited to share that the FestPac Committee Chair, CAHA Director, and the Media Team will be setting off to Hawaii this coming Monday to join our culinary arts representatives at the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture. The FestPac programming chairs and delegates focusing on Performing Arts, DESEA, and Literary Arts will be following suit in the coming days. The 13th FestPac, postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is a highly anticipated event. A 110-member delegation, consisting of cultural dancers, carvers, chanters, weavers, visual artists, traditional healers known as yo’åmte, and literary artists, will be showcasing a variety of performances, demonstrations, storytelling, and theatrical displays.
Festival attendees will witness a mesmerizing array of performances and presentations depicting the oral and written histories that capture the essence of CHamoru life in pre-latte and colonial times. Monica Guzman, Guam FestPac Committee Chair and CAHA Board Chair, expressed, "Our delegation embodies the rich blend of traditional and contemporary practitioners and performers that Guam has to offer across various genres. The team has dedicated significant efforts to prepare for this event and is eagerly looking forward to being part of FestPac." Angie Taitague, Director of CAHA, added, "The Guam Delegation is primed to shine at FestPac, presenting our island in the best possible light for the enjoyment of delegates from 26 other island nations, local spectators, and FestPac participants." Guam had the honor of hosting the previous FestPac in 2016.
